The Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card is Hilton’s flagship co-branded credit card, offering a long list of high-value benefits. While the $550 annual fee might raise eyebrows, the perks can easily make it worthwhile for frequent travelers.
Cardholders get an annual free night certificate, up to $400 per year in Hilton resort credits, and up to $200 per year in airline fee credits. But the most compelling benefit? Instant Hilton Honors Diamond elite status just for having the card.
In this guide from TheMilesAcademy, we explain exactly how this benefit works, what you can expect from Diamond status, and whether the card delivers enough value to justify keeping it year after year.
Hilton Honors Aspire Card Diamond Status Basics
The Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card gives you complimentary Diamond status for as long as you hold the card:
- Only the primary cardholder receives Diamond status; authorized users do not qualify.
- No extra steps are needed—your Diamond status will be applied automatically to the Hilton Honors account you list on the application.
- Although Amex says it can take 8–12 weeks for the status to post, most users see it within just a few days of being approved.
- Your status renews automatically each year as long as your Aspire Card remains active.
- Official policy says your Diamond status ends immediately if you close the card. However, many users report keeping the benefits for up to 90 days afterward.
Normally, Diamond status requires meeting one of these annual thresholds: 60 nights, 30 stays, or 120,000 base points. The Aspire Card bypasses all that and gives you top-tier status instantly.
That said, this does not count toward Lifetime Diamond status, which still requires 10 years of Diamond membership and either 1,000 elite nights or 2 million base points. Having the Aspire Card can help with the 10-year part, but not with the nights or points requirements.
What Hilton Diamond Elite Status Gets You
Diamond is the highest elite tier in the Hilton Honors loyalty program. Getting it automatically through a credit card is a big win, though execution varies depending on the property. Here are the major benefits:
- Room upgrades, including standard suites, when available. Hotels are not required to upgrade you; it’s at their discretion.
- Complimentary breakfast or a daily food and beverage credit at most brands. In the U.S., this benefit usually comes as a dollar-value dining credit.
- Executive lounge access, where available, which includes complimentary snacks, drinks, and seating areas.
- 100% bonus on points earned from Hilton stays. With frequent promotions, these bonuses can add up fast.
As with many loyalty programs, how much value you get from elite status depends on where you’re staying. In the U.S., don’t expect much beyond the dining credit. But in international markets like Southeast Asia and the Middle East, Diamond status is far more valuable—with better upgrades, breakfasts, and lounge access.
TheMilesAcademy’s Take on the Value of Diamond Status
We’ve carried the Hilton Honors Aspire Card for several years and consistently find that it pays for itself. Even if you don’t stay at Hilton often, the value from the benefits can more than offset the $550 annual fee.
We typically redeem the annual free night at high-end properties that cost more than $550 per night, making the card immediately worth keeping. Add in up to $400 in resort credits and $200 in airline credits, and the math becomes even more favorable.
As for Diamond status, while Hilton isn’t our main hotel brand (we tend to prioritize World of Hyatt and Marriott Bonvoy), having elite status does come in handy—especially overseas.
In the U.S., the perks are minimal. You might get the food credit and a slightly better room, but little else. Internationally, though, Diamond status goes a long way. In countries like the UAE, Thailand, and Japan, we’ve received incredible upgrades, generous breakfasts, and VIP treatment.
So while we wouldn’t go out of our way to earn Hilton Diamond status through stays alone, having it through the Aspire Card is a valuable bonus that enhances trips at no real added cost.
